Last night I went to a meetup called Leadership, Personal Development and Business Networking here in Melbourne.
I wanted to give them a shout out because I was really impressed with the people I met. They were all very engaged, interested and inspiring, and were there to have genuine and great conversations with other like minded people.
They meet once a month in the Melbourne CBD, so if you’re in the area, check out the group on their meetup page here.
Anyway, the theme of the meeting was “Steps To Personal Success.” They discussed what you need to do if you want to reach the goals you set for yourself. The interesting thing was that everyone had their own idea of what the exact steps were, so we got into some healthy discussions about what was important or what should take priority.
The conversation that resulted got me thinking about my own steps to personal success, and what I’ve done to get me to the point where I’m at now. So I’m sharing them with you on the podcast this week!
You’ll learn WHY it’s so important to follow these steps, and how they can help you to take your speaking skills, your confidence and your career or business to the next level. Sound good? Listen to the episode!
Christina’s Steps To Personal Success
1. Commit to making a change.
Decide that YOU are in control of your own circumstances. When I realised a career in architecture was not for me, I committed to finding out what it was that I wanted to do instead. I didn’t whine about my circumstances, I just made the decision to change them, and I took action.
2. Decide on what you want.
What do you want in life? What do you want to create? It doesn’t matter if it’s the “right” thing or not. Just pick something. You can always change it later, but the important thing is that you pick something you WANT so that you can start working towards it.
3. Visualise that thing you want.
Ask any high-performing individual (whether it be an athlete, business person or performer), and they’ll tell you about the power of visualisation. If you want to be a confident speaker, or a good listener, or an engaging person, visualise yourself as that person you want to be. When your brain already sees this image, it will work to make it a reality.
4. Surround yourself with the right people.
You’re not the first person who’s gone through this, believe me. Find someone who’s done it before, whether personally or through a blog. Ask them how they did it. Get a mentor. Get a coach. Tell your supportive friends and make other people make you accountable for it. You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with, so if you want to be successful, pick your people wisely.
5. Take consistent, daily action.
Do something every day that moves you towards your goal. Do one small thing every day. Maybe you focus on asking great questions, or standing tall, or making eye contact. Whatever you pick, stick to that thing and do it every day until it becomes a habit (if you find that other people start saying you’re a “natural” at it…you know you’ve got it nailed!). Then, move on to the next thing.
6. Get feedback.
Ask people “How am I doing?” what could I have done better? This is so important!
7. Listen to the episode to hear the final step!
