Peter Cook knows a thing or two about achieving mastery.
He is the CEO of Thought Leaders and Dean of Thought Leaders Business School, where he helps business leaders and every day people create highly successful businesses and lifestyles they love.
He is a speaker, mentor, best-selling author, meditation teacher-in-training, AND an Ishaya Monk.
In this conversation, Pete and I discuss how to create powerful habits in order to help you achieve mastery.
Notes from the discussion:
- “99% committed is hard, 100% committed is easy” Once you make the decision, it’s EASY.
- In business, you set your habits and make them NON NEGOTIABLE. For example: Pete writes a blog post every week. It’s never a conversation about “should I publish something”, it’s “What do I publish?”
- Committing 100% reduces your internal chatter
- “Building confidence is about creating distance between you and that negative self talk.”
- Having a good habit builds you up and is worth fighting for. It helps your mojo and confidence!
- Charles Duhigg – cornerstone habits. Making the bed is the cornerstone habit. Sets you up for success.
- Pete shares his morning routine.
- James Clear – Atomic Habits. Compromise on the SCOPE but not on the CADENCE. Do it every day, just do a tiny bit. You still feel accomplished.
- When you take one small piece of action, “It’s still a vote for your identity as a…” (runner, writer, etc.)
- For example, you want to be a writer? Write every day. Helps to build your confidence.
- It’s more important that you went to the gym 3 times a week for 5 years, not just one big workout. That’s the important bit.
- 3 fundamental challenges to becoming a successful thought leader:
1. Voice in head that “I’m not good enough”
2. Voice that says:” I don’t deserve it”
3. We are all dysfunctional around money. You can never ask about how much people earn. As a thought leader, you are telling others how much you are worth – and rejection can be interpreted as a rejection of YOU.
