Sometimes noticing something about someone that you can connect with is enough to totally make their day and kick off their week.
Every time I hang out with John ‘The Rev’ MacMahon, he goes out of his way to authentically connect with people and brighten their day.
He says he always has an agenda – to leave someone better off than before they met him.
And this is why I wanted to bring him on the show.
Rev is a youth specialist motivational speaker and entrepreneur. He speaks to young guys, age 11-17 in schools, sporting clubs and community groups. He draws on his “chequered” teenage experiences in his talks, where he inspires and empowers young people to go after their dreams and live a passionate, authentic, fulfilling life.
One thing I love and admire about Rev is his unfiltered, raw authenticity. And you’ll hear him, he tells it like it is. And this type of authenticity it’s not a common thing you find in people. In this conversation we talk about building meaningful relationships, adding value, standing out and being memorable, and how being authentic and raw can both help and hinder opportunities.
We met up at the Hub Melbourne Coworking space for this chat, so you may hear some background noises at points, and also just a warning, there are a few swear words in here that I haven’t bleeped out (since we’re talking about being authentic and unfiltered!). So explicit language warning, get the kids to put on their ear muffs.
