Turns out, creative videos can be used for more than entertaining your friends on YouTube.
In this week’s episode I’m learning about the world of ‘comping’ – that is, the world of online competitions where winning cool shit is as simple as submitting a 60 second video.
And to share his secrets with us is creative ‘comper’ Jimmy Dalgleish.
Jimmy started entering online competitions in 2011 as a side hobby and has since won close to $50,000 in cash and prizes – the most notable win was the Acer Team Unlimited Challenge where he won a $25,000 cash prize. Pretty damn cool!
And how does he do it? Through making simple but creative videos.
I was excited to talk to Jimmy because I’m a massive fan of video – I believe it’s one of the best ways to stand out and get noticed, and Jimmy has proven again and again that it works. In fact, he’s recently launched a resource at EnterComps to help others greatly increase their chances at winning competitions too – ‘cos there’s nothing like that winning feeling!
Even if you’re not planning on entering competitions, this conversation is worth a listen, as you can apply the tips Jimmy shares to other situations where a video will help you stand out, whether it’s for a job application, a marketing video for your business, a video greeting for clients, reaching out to potential podcast guests (as I like to do) – it goes on and on.
