Have you ever made a bad decision?

And do you ever wish that you knew how to make good decisions, over and over again?

Well I have good news for you! My guest this week is an expert on decision making, and is here to show you the step-by-step process for making the right decision when the stakes are high.

Basil Nuredini is a lawyer, business consultant and author of ‘Less Risk More Reward – The Essential Guide to Key Decision Making.‘ **Click here to get the book on Amazon (not an affiliate link)**

He’s represented over 1500 people in court – and every one of them ended up there because of bad decisions. He says:

“Those who learn the art and skill of good decision making gain a competitive edge – good decision making skills are portable and applicable to all fields of human endeavour – and often are the difference between winning and losing.”

You ready to win? Awesome! Listen to the episode 🙂

Notes from the episode:

  • After school, Basil wanted to pursue something that HE wanted and make his own future, instead of accepting that this is the ‘path’ he’s meant to follow.
  • “We live in mini universes within our worlds and we’re primarily governed by the things available to us, by the circumstances and the information around us, and the people who influence us.”
  • Why Basil first got interested in the decision-making process.
  • He’s represented over 1500 people in court, every one of them ended up there because of bad decisions. Over the last 20 years, he’s learned all the different ways that humans can make bad decisions.
  • “I can bet London to a brick that whatever choices you’re thinking about when making a [big] decision, you’ve missed out on some. There’s an alternative.”
  • Learn how to do what other people AREN’T doing.
  • Concept of “the usual suspects” – people who intervene in your decision making, to cause you to make the wrong decision, or go down the wrong path.
  • The concept of the ‘narrow spotlight’
  • Always be looking at the consequences. Likelihood x penalty
  • Fatigue with decision making
  • Stress induced bias, more likely to give into temptation. If you’re under stress, or tired etc your controls go. You’re likely to choose the ‘default’ or ‘easy’ decision.
  • To avoid this – get your sleep! Recognise that the inconsequential decisions don’t really matter. None of these things will move your life.
  • Focus on the decisions that move your life. Train yourself to find those opportunities to make those life changing decisions.
  • It doesn’t matter if you’re right or wrong, if you play the game right.
  • You’ll find more opportunities that have BIGGER pay offs.
  • Why you don’t need to be right all the time.
  • “We are all decision making factories. And those decisions accumulate.”
