What do other podcasters do to be confident behind the mic?

Find out in this episode! When I was at Podcast Movement 16 in Chicago I shared MY tips for being confident behind the mic in my speaking session (which you can listen to here).

To gain a new perspective, I asked other podcasters how THEY built their own confidence, not only behind the podcast microphone, but also as speakers. I’m sharing their answers with you in this episode.

If you’re not a podcaster, that’s ok, a lot of what they share also relates to having confidence when speaking, having conversations or simply starting something new and scary.

The Key Takeaways:

While there was a wide variety of interesting answers, I noticed a few common themes:

  1. Practice. Simply get started and practice. No one is great at the start!
  2. Transferable skills. Involve yourself in another hobby to do with performance, whether it’s acting classes, playing music, playing Dungeons and Dragons, or Toastmasters.
  3. Speak to a friend. When doing interviews, talk to your friends first, or speak as if you’re talking to a friend. In a networking situation, you could bring friends along and talk to them to warm up, then get them to introduce you to someone new. If you’re speaking to a group, speak as if you were having a conversation with a friend. Make sense?
